Approval of the May 20, 2026 Board Meeting Minutes

A motion to accept the May 20th, 2026 Board of Director Meeting Minutes  as presented was made, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Public Comment & Announcements

• Update on the EAR – Will Quimby
  • All physical construction of the EAR is complete.
  • A dedication ceremony was held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 to officially open the EAR.
  • Final payments and permit closeouts will be completed within the next month, concluding the project’s remaining paperwork.

Financial Reports

Review of May financials

• The May 2026 financial report was presented by Christina Jantzef.
  • Revenue collection is above the budgeted target for the year. Sixty-four percent of the expected receipts have been collected to date.
  • Operating expenses are below the year-to-date budget target.
  • The Board approved a check for $108,644.00 to be issued to the Genesee Foundation for preliminary engineering and design of the EAR.
• A motion to accept the year-to-date financials as presented was made, seconded, and approved unanimously..

Reports of Officers, Committees, Professional Consultants

Administrators/Training Coordinator – Lt. Max Herte

• The Mountain Fire Academy is approaching the midway point of its training schedule. Job Performance Requirements practicals are scheduled for July 27, and the written examination is scheduled for August 1.
• Genesee Fire Protection District organized an interagency wildland firefighting training on May 23. The event brought together six neighboring agencies and a total of fifty firefighters to participate in coordinated drills, tactical briefings and cross-agency familiarization exercises aimed at improving regional wildfire response capabilities.
• Thursday night training on June 18 will concentrate on operating department engines along the EAR to practice access and egress procedures for Driver Operators.

Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

•  Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone reports that emergency call volume remains below the typical level for this time of year. To date, the department has responded to 135 emergency calls this year. As a precaution, the District is maintaining an active auto-aid agreement with Foothills Fire specifically for any wildland fire incidents.  

Apparatus Coordinator – Peter Greenstone

• Fire Truck Solutions worked on the brakes of Ladder 971.
• All apparatus are in service.
• The department’s purchased drone has been delivered and will undergo FAA registration. Training for the department drone pilots will begin soon to launch the planned department drone program.
• Recent pump testing was completed on all department engines, and every unit passed.

Recruiting Coordinator Lt. Kris Kleiner

• Ongoing collaboration with Responder MAX continues to support the department’s upcoming recruitment season. New signage for the recruitment campaign is being developed to support future recruitment efforts.

Facilities Coordinator – Chief Josh Boyles

• The coordination of a preplan for the station expansion project is continuing with a local architect firm.

Wildland Coordinator – Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

• It has been a relatively quiet start to the wildland season across the county. Weather patterns are being monitored closely, and potential deployments are being evaluated to provide operational experience for department members.

Auxiliary – Deputy Chief Peter Greenstone

• The Auxiliary is coordinating the department’s participation in the Genesee Foundation Fourth of July parade. The department will also host an open-house BBQ for the community on July 24.

Old Business

• Community Evacuation
  • Josh Boyles Planning entails developing a Community Evacuation Drill to introduce the Emergency Access Road (EAR) to the public on July 25. Community members will have the opportunity to drive the EAR for the first time to familiarize themselves with the route and procedures in advance of potential future emergency events.

New Business

2025 Audit Report – Neil Frame

• Christina Jantzef reported that the 2025 annual department audit will be finalized in July to allow for the accounting actions required by Jefferson County. The Board will review and approve the audit before the submission deadline of July 31, 2026.
